Out of one school & into many…

After thirteen years in teaching and ten years at the one school I will be leaving at the end of 2012 in order to focus my efforts on a number of very exciting projects.

One such project is my involvement with PLANE. I will be developing professional learning experiences in the areas of wellbeing, engagement and leadership.

In preparation for this, I have created a survey that if you have a couple of minutes spare, it would be great if you could complete it to help me focus my efforts.

The other major focus in 2013 will be getting my not-for-profit initiative YouthEngage up and running. We’ve already received numerous expressions of interest from NSW schools keen to work with us.

There are other really cool things in the pipeline too that I’ll let you in on in the coming months…

Since handing in my notice I’ve experienced every emotion possible, but I figure after spending the last 13 years encouraging my students to believe in themselves, try to make a difference and ‘go for it’ – it was time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk!

I look forward to having you along for the ride!

PS – If you’re keen on applying for my job you can do here! 🙂

  1. Go for it Dan!!!
After hearing you speak in Perth I can only say that the more young people who benefit from your extraordinary perspective the better.

I too have decided to move on from my position after 12 years. There must be something in the air. 🙂

I wish you well, though I hardly think you need my good wishes.

  2. Congratulations Dan, having left school last term (after almost 15 years) to follow my passion, I ‘hear’ each word you utter. The next few few weeks are likely to be emotionaly turbulent but enjoy each moment.

I hope we will have an opportunity to connect professionally. I enjoy reading your posts, it seems we are on similar paths.

    • Nicole, thanks for taking the time to stop by. I’d certainly be keen to work together if the opportunity presents itself… Good luck with your own endeavours!

  3. Wow! Sounds amazing 😀 And agreed, sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and do what scares you most and start “walking the walk!”

  4. Congratulations Dan! Our teenagers need as much support as possible. Since emerging myself in social media, I am experiencing more and more of the “teenage world”. Whilst most interaction is positive, the “sadness” and varying perceptions of the reality of life greatly concerns me. I hope we can afford our youth the care and support that is needed. Great you can follow your dreams to assist with this noble work. Congratulations!

    • Hi Jeanette, Thanks for taking the time to comment, and offer your encouragement! It’s much appreciated!

  5. When I arrive in Oz in a couple of weeks, I hope our paths will cross Dan. We share a lot of the same passions and given that I am stepping out of secondary school education after 12 years, we are sharing similar career developments. Being an ex youth worker, I am very interested in your Youth Engage work and have followed as best I can the PLANE stuff (although not being in NSW makes that hard). Your passion for empowerment of young people excites me and again is something we share. I am desperate to grow the ozdls network which if you haven’t come across it is here. Would love to chat about this and other related stuff with you sometime.

  6. Go Dan. And I know just how you are and will feel as the year comes to an end. Remember what a wreck I was!!! The challenge will be worthwhile! Only the best of luck….maybe there will be some jobs for ya old mates somewhere down the track….:))
