In reaction to the Queensland Government’s move to name & shame young offenders as young as ten, I wrote this piece for the ABC.
Being seen to be tough on crime is Politics 101. It’s a guaranteed vote-winner. It creates good copy for the tabloids, and “naming and shaming” is the bread and butter of any self-respecting shock jock. It’s even better if you can blame your opponents for the apparent crime wave.

Love Dan Haesler. He speaks wisdom, intelligience and solid understanding of the issues around juvenile justice, Qld gov is the true juvenile in this issue and the youth have been left behind once again by adults that have really no idea of the impact and consequences of these destructive policy decisions. Those of us like Dan are working to encourage social engagement and self worth of youth and meanwhile weve got govt undermining all the hard work we do. Very frustrating1
Thanks very kind of you to say, although not everyone would agree with you!
